Learning Through Fairy Tales and Nature: PYP Students and Preschoolers in Ogulin
13/12/2024
Learning knows no classroom boundaries, as demonstrated by our PYP students and preschoolers who spent an unforgettable day in Ogulin, a place where nature and fairy tales create the perfect blend for discovery, play, and imagination.
The day began with a walk to Đulin Ponor, a natural phenomenon named after a legend from local folklore. The children had the opportunity to hear fascinating details about this unique site, explore it, and ask questions, deepening their connection to the region’s historical and natural heritage.
After a playful break filled with lunch and winter games, they enjoyed a guided tour of Ivana’s House of Fairy Tales, a museum dedicated to the works of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. The children explored the world of fairy tales through interactive exhibits and encountered beloved characters from Ivana’s stories, such as The Forest of Stribor.
The highlight of the day was a workshop inspired by The Forest of Stribor, where the children crafted their own magical forests using natural materials. The workshop aimed to encourage creative expression while connecting with nature and art. Each child took home their creation, a treasured memory of this imaginative and inspiring experience.
This educational excursion was more than just a field trip – it was an opportunity to develop new skills, explore cultural heritage, and connect with natural beauty. Ogulin provided the children with inspiration for learning, play, and creativity, proving that the most valuable lessons often happen beyond the classroom.
