A Day in the Middle Ages: PYP Field Trip to Svetvinčenat

2/11/2026

On Thursday, October 29, our PYP students traded the classroom for a castle. We spent the day in Svetvinčenat, a small historic town in Istria, finding out what life was like in the Middle Ages.

Morosini-Grimani Castle

Our first stop was the Morosini-Grimani Castle. Students learned about the history of Svetvinčenat and the role castles played in the past, and they had plenty of questions along the way. Who lived here? How did people defend a castle? What did an ordinary day look like back then? Walking through the real thing made those questions much easier to explore than any textbook could.

Sanc. Michael Medieval Theme Park

After the castle, we headed to the Medieval Theme Park, where history became something the students could try for themselves. They took part in medieval games and challenges, tried archery, explored the castle grounds and found their way through the labyrinth. Along the way they discovered how people lived, worked and played in medieval times.

Lunch and a Walk

We ate lunch together as a group, then finished the day with a walk through the old streets of Svetvinčenat. It was a calm end to a busy day, and a chance to take in the atmosphere of the town.

Why We Go

Trips like this are a big part of how we teach in the PYP. When students can see, touch and try things for themselves, learning stays with them. They came back with new knowledge, new questions and a lot of good memories.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible. We can’t wait for our next adventure!
