A Practical Lesson on Food and Environmental Responsibility

As part of the last PYP unit of this school year called “Sharing the Planet,” which focused on conservation and environmental responsibility, classes were devoted to learning about food. It is nature that gives us food, so it is crucial to learn to appreciate and preserve it.

The best way to do this is to understand the production process and the ingredients needed to create food. The students specifically researched the process of making bread, one of the most basic foods. They learned how bread comes from the field to our table, visited stores to buy the necessary ingredients themselves and then kneaded the bread with their own hands.

This activity helped them to better understand the importance of agriculture and the environment and to develop an appreciation for the food they consume.
