At Adria School, we believe that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future for children everywhere. This year, our school community has come together to make a meaningful difference through our involvement in UNICEF’s Schools for Africa project. With the spirit of the holidays inspiring us, we’ve embarked on a journey of learning, creativity, and compassion, all aimed to support children in Ethiopia who dream of an education but face overwhelming challenges.

A journey of service learning and empathy

As an IB World School, we embrace the philosophy of service learning – connecting classroom lessons with meaningful actions that benefit the global community. Our students engaged in thoughtful discussions about kindness, empathy, and the transformative power of education. Through guided inquiry, they explored what it means to help others and how they can take real steps to create change.

This year’s focus was deeply tied to the struggles of children in Ethiopia who lack access to quality education. Students reflected on the importance of education in their own lives and imagined the challenges of living without it. By engaging with the realities of others, our learners developed a deeper sense of global responsibility and a strong motivation to act.

Turning learning into action

Inspired by what they learned, our students took action. They rolled up their sleeves and crafted beautiful Christmas decorations, handmade cards, and ornaments to sell at our annual Christmas market. These creations were not just works of art—they were symbols of hope, with all proceeds going directly to support Schools for Africa.

But that wasn’t all! Our students also wrote heartfelt letters to Santa, beginning with the words, “All I want for Christmas this year is…” These letters were filled with touching wishes – not for themselves, but for the children in Ethiopia. Each letter expressed a unique desire to help others gain access to the education they deserve.

A video to inspire change

To share their message and encourage others to join our cause, our students created a special fundraising video. In it, they highlight the challenges Ethiopian children face in accessing education and explain how we at Adria School are working to make a difference. From creating and selling Christmas crafts to hosting a fundraising event, our students are showing how young people can truly make an impact.
