For enrolment into the 1st grade of secondary school, a common, additional, and special element are also evaluated and scored.

Common element

  • GPA rounded to two decimal points for all 4 grades of primary school;
  • final grades in the last two grades of primary school in Croatian Language, Mathematics, first foreign language, History, Geography and Biology.

In that way a maximum of 80 points can be achieved.

In case the grades from one of the subjects relevant for enrolment are not entered into the candidate’s diplomas for the last four years of primary education, the number of points for that subject is determined as the average of all final grades in the last four grades of primary school, rounded to two decimal points.

Additional element

Additional evaluation element pertains to the candidate’s abilities, talents and knowledge.
The candidate’s abilities, talents and knowledge are evidenced and evaluated:

  • on the basis of a test (examination) of special knowledge, skills, abilities and talents;
  • on the basis of the results achieved at knowledge competitions;
  • on the basis of the results achieved at competitions of school sports associations.

At IS Adria a special skills evaluation is conducted, which includes a test of knowledge of English (4 points) and a motivation interview with the candidates in English (4 points).  The special skills evaluation is not eliminatory.
Exceptionally, candidates who have attended an IB programme for the past three grades do not have to undergo this evaluation.

Evaluation of candidates’ results at knowledge and sports competitions

Only one (most favourable) achievement is evaluated.

KNOWLEDGE COMPETITIONS

Candidates can be awarded direct enrolment or extra points based on their results in:

  • knowledge competitions in school subjects: Croatian Language, Mathematics, first foreign language;
  • knowledge competitions in History and Geography;
  • knowledge competition in Biology.

The results are evaluated as follows:

State/international knowledge competitions:

  • First, second or third place as an individual in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade of primary school = direct enrolment (provided that the candidate passed the evaluation of abilities and talents)
  • First place as part of a group in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade of primary school = 4 points
  • Second place as part of a group in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade of primary school = 3 points
  • Third place as part of a group in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade of primary school = 2 points
  • Participation as an individual or as part of a group in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade of primary school = 1 point

SPORTS COMPETITIONS

Candidates get points for results achieved during the final four grades of primary school at competitions of sports associations organised according to the Regulations of the National Championship of School Sports Associations of the Republic of Croatia, and under the supervision of the Croatian School Sports Federation Competition Committee.

Competitions of school sports associations:

  • Students who, as members of a team, won first place at the national championship = 3 points
  • Students who, as members of a team, won second place at the national championship = 2 points
  • Students who, as members of a team, won third place at the national championship = 1 points.

We point out that the results of state competitions in knowledge and sports that are relevant for enrolment pertain exclusively to results at competitions organised by the Education and Teacher Training Agency and the Croatian School Sports Federation, respectively.

Candidates who have won one of first three places at international competitions in knowledge are to submit proof thereof to the Education and Teacher Training Agency, which, upon evaluation, will duly enter it into the system.

Special element

Special evaluation element pertains to the achievement of:

  • candidates with health issues (1 extra point);
  • candidates who live in aggravated education conditions as a result of unfavourable economic, social and education factors, namely candidates who live with one or both parents suffering from a severe illness, candidates whose parents have been unemployed long-term; candidates who live with a single parent who is a beneficiary of social welfare, and candidates with a deceased parent (1 extra point);
  • candidates to be enrolled per the National Strategy for the inclusion of Roma 2013-2020 (2 extra points);
  • candidates who are Croatian nationals whose parents are state officials sent to work abroad ex officio on behalf of the Republic of Croatia (direct enrolment).

Irrespective of whether the candidate qualifies for more than one right, only one of the above listed rights will be taken into account, that which is most favourable for them.

Candidates with developmental difficulties

Candidates with developmental difficulties are placed on separate ranking lists, as per the total number of points determined during the evaluation procedure, of education programmes for which they have been issued an expert opinion by the Croatian Employment Services Career Office.

A class department may have a maximum of three students with developmental difficulties.  If a class department has one student with difficulties, it should not have more than 26 students; if it has two students with difficulties, it should not have more than 23 students; and if it has three students with difficulties, it should not have more than 20 students.
